Going Global

FAR AND AWAY

In the process of writing a book, Thrums Books authors and photographers travel to some pretty faraway places, tucked in jungles or on the edges of giant mountains. Sometimes they just live there. Either way, it makes sense that you should be able to find our books in these places, too. And also because interest in the preservation and celebration of indigenous global craft traditions is, well, global.

For the last few months, we’ve been exploring ways for Thrums Books to go global beyond their subject matter. So now, readers from Peru to England and from Guatemala to Europe, are able to buy our books. How cool is that? I like that our fiber friends in the U.K. and Europe are able to go online now to Search Press and order a copy of A Textile Guide to the Chiapas of Highlands or Maya Threads, and all of our other titles, too. Folks can buy a copy of Traditional Weavers of Guatemala at the Artemis Edinter shops throughout Guatemala, at the Sophos bookstore in Guatemala City (which Fodor’s Travel rates as a top notch book shop!), and at Posado Santiago which, in addition to being a gorgeous place to stay on the shores of Lake Atitlán, supports indigenous weavers and embroidery artists by selling their work. And in the SBS International Bookstores across Peru, soon readers will be able to purchase Weaving in the Peruvian Highlands. As Linda would say, “That’s swell.”

And for readers in the U.S., of course you’ll always find Thrums Books’ titles at ClothRoads and at Amazon.

And one more quick note to connect the dots – that photo of Lake Atitlán and the volcano behind it was taken at dawn from the sun deck in front of the Posada de Atitlán.
